The Financial News reported that President of the United States Donald Trump has said he has no plans to take control of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s oil.
On the 6th local time, Yahoo Finance reported that at an Easter event at the White House, President of the United States Trump appeared to step back from the idea of controlling Iranian oil, which had been a major concern in energy markets.
He remarked, "Personally, I would like to take the oil," but stressed that bringing U.S. troops home after completing their missions is the priority for now.
Throughout the day, President of the United States Trump repeated that he would like to take the Islamic Republic of Iran’s oil, yet he also said he has no political motivation to do so.
His comments are seen as maintaining the threat of strikes on key Iranian infrastructure, while drawing a line at occupying and managing Iranian oil fields, which would entail enormous costs and casualties.
President of the United States Trump said, "Above all, I am a businessman," and referred to past U.S. operations in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, where Washington secured a share of oil revenues. He expressed nostalgia for a time "when the spoils went to the victor" and repeatedly voiced regret that the United States would not directly control Iranian oil.
Energy experts have long argued that seizing Kharg Island, which handles 90% of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s oil exports, or occupying the southwestern onshore oil fields would inevitably require a large-scale ground deployment.
Yahoo Finance noted that President of the United States Trump’s latest remarks suggest the likelihood of such a highly risky operation being carried out has diminished.
