Esports legend Lee Sang-hyeok, known in League of Legends (LoL) as "Faker," will be featured on a new commemorative stamp.
Korea Post, under the Ministry of Science and ICT, announced on the 6th that it will issue an additional commemorative stamp featuring esports player Faker in October.
In line with its regulations, Korea Post issues commemorative stamps based on themes of national significance or public interest. Eligible subjects include major national events, historical incidents, achievements in culture, arts, and science, international events, people or events that enhance national prestige, and other cases recognized as serving the public good.
Previously, the commemorative stamp for BTS (Bangtan Boys) was approved on the grounds that the group falls under the category of people or events that promote national prestige.
Originally, 16 commemorative stamp themes were planned for this year, including Jeju oreum, Princess Catch! Teenieping, K-pop, the June Tenth Movement, the KBO League, Robot Taekwon V, the 150th anniversary of the birth of Kim Gu, and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ju Si-gyeong. With Faker, one more theme has now been added.
Faker made his professional debut in 2013 and has played for T1 for 13 years, remaining highly active. At the end of last year, he achieved his sixth career title and a three-peat at the League of Legends World Championship (LoL World Championship).
In January this year, Lee Sang-hyeok received the Cheongnyong (Blue Dragon) Medal of Sports, part of the Order of Sport Merit, from President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea at a New Year’s reception. The Order of Sport Merit is awarded to individuals recognized for enhancing national prestige and contributing to the promotion of sports among the public.
