[Financial News] The United States has rescued one missing crew member from an McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle (F-15) fighter jet that was shot down during a military operation against Iran, Axios and other US political news outlets reported on the 4th (local time). The rescue mission was completed about two days after the shootdown in calendar days, or roughly 36 hours later. As a result, it appears that all US personnel aboard the aircraft that went down in Iran have now been safely recovered.
Citing three government sources, Axios reported, "US special forces completed a search-and-rescue mission for the missing service member in southwestern Iran and then withdrew." The US daily The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) also reported that "the missing service member and all rescue personnel safely exited Iran."
According to the sources, US special forces were deployed to Iran on the 3rd to rescue the missing crew member, and they re-entered the country the following day to continue search and rescue operations. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) dispatched troops to the area where the missing person was believed to be and attempted to block the mission. US Air Force fighter jets reportedly carried out airstrikes to prevent Iranian forces from advancing and to support the operation.
US President Donald John Trump and his senior aides were said to have monitored the rescue mission from the White House Situation Room.
