According to The Financial News, Cho Kuk, leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party, marked the first anniversary on the 4th of former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment and removal from office by targeting the People Power Party (PPP), saying, "There must never again be a situation where the remnants of the insurrection are revived in local politics."
Through a party announcement, Cho stated, "We must drive out, without exception, all forces that defended the insurrection."
Cho went on, "The removal of former President Yoon was a victory achieved by the people who kept the squares and fought through the entire cold winter," adding, "For the Rebuilding Korea Party, which has long proclaimed that 'three years is too long,' it was the moment when our promise to the people was fulfilled. The relief and cheers of that day come back to me with renewed intensity."
He continued, "Only then did the Republic of Korea (South Korea) finally regain its spring," and added, "On that day, the Constitutional Court of Korea dragged the drunken tyrant Yoon Suk Yeol, who had declared an illegal martial law, down from power, and afterward the courts sentenced the ringleader of the insurrection to life imprisonment. Just as it was for Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo, this is the fate of those who destroy constitutional order and trample on democracy."
He further said, "Together with the people who repelled the insurrection, the Rebuilding Korea Party will work to achieve 'zero People Power Party' and to build an advanced country in social rights."
Park Byeong-eon, senior spokesperson for the Rebuilding Korea Party, also issued a commentary the same day, saying, "Yoon Suk Yeol and his followers in the People Power Party must deeply reflect on the deliberative process that led the Constitutional Court of Korea to unanimously remove Yoon Suk Yeol from office," and added, "The claims by Yoon Suk Yeol and Jang Dong-hyeok that actions in violation of the Constitution and the law were justified must now be withdrawn. They must engage in deep self-reflection."
He added, "On the Republic of Korea’s path forward after the insurrection, the Constitutional Court of Korea has left a great footprint. The court played a truly significant role in ensuring that citizens’ resistance led to an institutional settlement of the insurrection," and continued, "We also hope the court will strive, in the process of establishing procedures for future constitutional complaints, to realize the principle of popular sovereignty."
