[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) on the 3rd nominated former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum as its sole candidate for Daegu Metropolitan City mayor.
Kim I-soo, Chairperson of the Central Nomination Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced the decision at party headquarters immediately after Kim Boo-kyum completed his interview for the Daegu mayoral nomination.
Kim said, "We concluded that, based on his four terms in the National Assembly and his experience as Minister of the Interior and Safety and as prime minister, he has all the qualifications needed to lead Daegu Metropolitan City," adding, "I earnestly ask the citizens of Daegu to support Kim’s challenge as he once again takes on what feels like a destined mission to overcome regionalism."
After the interview, Kim Boo-kyum told reporters, "Starting next week, I will announce my campaign pledges one by one in an orderly manner," and added, "Under the Lee Jae-myung administration, artificial intelligence (AI) has become the dominant force in civilization and industry, so I will consider how to combine this with Daegu’s strengths to further upgrade the machinery, robotics, and medical sectors."
With the selection of the Daegu mayoral candidate, the Central Party Nomination Management Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea has effectively entered the final stage of its nominations for metropolitan mayors and governors. In key areas such as Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, where candidates have not yet been finalized, primary contests are under way, meaning the process has largely moved beyond the committee’s direct control.
The party’s central nomination committee plans to hold one final meeting after the Seoul mayoral primary, which will be the last to conclude, to review the overall nomination process for the upcoming local elections and discuss improvements to the party’s nomination management system.
