[The Financial News] Major rallies and Easter events will take place simultaneously in central Seoul this weekend, and heavy traffic congestion is expected.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) announced on the 3rd that on the 4th, rallies involving thousands of participants and an Easter event hosted by The United Christian Churches of Korea will be held in the Gwanghwamun area.
Sejong-daero in Gwanghwamun, between the Gwanghwamun Intersection and the Sejong Intersection, will be completely closed for 24 hours from midnight to midnight on the 4th. Police plan to operate one lane in this section as an emergency lane for ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
A conservative group will hold a rally around Marronnier Park in Daehangno in Jongno District and then march from the Jongno 5(o)-ga Intersection along Jongno and Samil-daero to Exit 5 of Anguk Station, passing through the Jongno 2-ga Intersection.
A progressive group will stage a rally on Yulgok-ro, between the Anguk Intersection and the Anguk Station Intersection. To keep east–west traffic moving, police will operate the lanes on the opposite side of the rally site as reversible lanes in a one-to-one configuration.
To ease congestion, police will deploy about 190 traffic officers around the rally and march routes to manage traffic and guide vehicles to detours.
An SMPA official said, "Traffic jams are expected around Sejong-daero, Sajik-ro, Yulgok-ro and other areas where the rallies and Easter events will be held," and urged, "Please use the subway whenever possible, and if you must drive, check traffic information in advance."
Traffic conditions, including rally times and locations, can be checked through the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Traffic Information Center hotline, its website, and the KakaoTalk Traffic Information Center channel.
