[The Financial News] A hair-raising near-miss occurred when an electric scooter suddenly toppled over in the middle of the road without any apparent external impact, nearly colliding with a nearby car. The incident is now sparking debate online.
On the 2nd, a dashboard camera video showing a single-vehicle accident involving an electric scooter was posted on the online community Bobaedream. The person who shared the footage, identified as A, wrote, "I moved into the next lane to avoid the scooter rider, but when the rider fell, they almost got hit by my car as well."
The released video shows an electric scooter rider traveling on a flat, unobstructed road when they suddenly lose balance and crash onto the roadway. At the end of the clip, you can hear the dashboard camera owner, who witnessed the moment, scream, "Oh my God, what do I do?" conveying how urgent the situation was.
The scooter rider in the video did not appear to be wearing basic safety gear such as a helmet. After the crash, the rider seemed so stunned that they were unable to get up for some time.
Experts point out that e-scooters have small wheels and a high center of gravity, which makes them prone to tipping over easily due to road conditions or even minor handling errors.
They especially warn that, as in this case, if a scooter falls next to a moving vehicle, the risk of a secondary collision rises sharply. Because of this, many stress that scooter users must exercise great caution, and surrounding drivers also need to practice defensive driving.
Online commenters reacted by saying, "This is terrifying. Are they trying to turn an innocent driver into the offender?", "If the driver hadn’t been able to avoid that sudden fall, how would that be the driver’s fault?", "They’re not even wearing a helmet", "They’re neither proper vehicles nor pedestrians", and "They’re ticking time bombs on the road and should be banned."
