President Lee approves appointment of assistant special prosecutor Kim Chi-heon for Second Comprehensive Special Counsel

[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung has approved the appointment of attorney Kim Chi-heon as an assistant special prosecutor for the Second Comprehensive Special Counsel.
Kang Yoo-jung, senior presidential spokesperson at Cheong Wa Dae, announced in a press notice on the 2nd that President Lee had approved Kim’s appointment the previous day, on the 1st.
Born in 1982, Kim is a first-round bar exam passer. He has worked as a partner attorney at Frontier Law Firm and at JIPYONG, and also served as an inspector at the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) and as an attorney at the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL).
The Second Comprehensive Special Counsel is tasked with investigating 17 matters, including allegations surrounding the relocation of the presidential residence, the route change of the Seoul–Yangpyeong Expressway, and alleged involvement of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces and the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) in martial law plans. Launched on February 25, the special counsel can operate for up to 170 days and deploy as many as 251 investigators to probe unresolved issues left by the three previous special counsel investigations.
