[Financial News] The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in southern Islamic Republic of Iran came under attack at around 11:40 p.m. local time on the 27th (5:10 a.m. on the 28th, Korea time), the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced.
The AEOI explained that this was the third attack targeting the Bushehr area as the war in the Middle East enters its second month. It added that no casualties, physical damage, or technical abnormalities have been reported so far.
It condemned the strike, stating, "An attack on peaceful nuclear facilities constitutes a blatant violation of international law and poses a serious threat to regional security."
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also announced that it had been informed by the Islamic Republic of Iran of the attack on Bushehr.
Located on the Persian Gulf coast in southern Islamic Republic of Iran, the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant could cause severe damage to coastal states in the event of a radioactive leak. The plant was also attacked on the night of the 24th.
After Israel vowed to intensify its attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran, airstrikes on the 27th also hit the Khondab Heavy Water Complex, which houses an experimental heavy-water reactor within the Arak Nuclear Complex in Markazi Province, as well as a uranium concentrate (yellowcake) production plant in Ardakan, Yazd Province.
A steel mill in Khuzestan Province in the southwest, which uses radioactive materials, was also bombed.
The IAEA said there was no risk of radioactive release from the strike on the Khondab Heavy Water Complex, and that no radioactive release occurred as a result of the attack on the Khuzestan steel mill.
