According to The Financial News, Tiger Woods, often called the "golf emperor," was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or drugs.
According to multiple U.S. media outlets, including American Broadcasting Company (ABC) and The Associated Press (AP), Woods was involved in a collision with another vehicle at around 2 p.m. local time on the 27th on a two-lane road on Jupiter Island in Martin County, Florida.
The Land Rover that Woods was driving overturned in the crash, but he was reportedly not injured. However, the Martin County Sheriff's Office stated that he was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI and subsequently detained. It has not yet been determined whether the alleged DUI involved alcohol or drugs.
Woods was previously arrested on DUI charges in 2017. At that time, police in southern Florida found him asleep in the driver’s seat of a car that was awkwardly parked and had damage on the driver’s side, and he told officers he had taken painkillers. In court, Woods admitted to careless driving and received penalties including a fine, probation, and community service.
This is also his second rollover crash. In February 2021, Woods was seriously injured when he crashed while driving a Genesis GV80 on a downhill stretch in Rolling Hills Estates near Los Angeles (LA). However, there was no evidence of alcohol or drug use in that incident. At the time, police concluded that Woods caused the crash by speeding and pressing the accelerator instead of the brake on a curve.
