The Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) announced on the 27th that it had referred Rep. Jang to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office on charges of quasi-forcible indecent act and violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (breach of confidentiality).
Jang is accused of sexually assaulting his aide, identified only as A, during a drinking gathering with National Assembly aides at a restaurant in Yeouido in October 2024. He is also suspected of secondary victimization, including exposing A’s identity after the allegations surfaced.
A filed a complaint with Yeongdeungpo Police Station on November 25 last year. Jang denied the allegations and filed a countersuit against A for false accusation, among other charges. He also asked the Police Investigation Review Committee to review the legality of the investigative procedures, but the committee acknowledged Jang’s quasi-forcible indecent act.
On the following day, the 20th, Jang announced, "I will make sure to prove that this is a false accusation," and withdrew from the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK).
Police also referred Jang’s former secretary, identified only by the surname Kim, who was present at the drinking gathering, to prosecutors on a charge of attempted quasi-rape.
