Self-employed business owners are increasingly worried as the likelihood grows that prices for packaging containers and similar items will rise, according to The Financial News.
According to industry sources on the 28th, oil prices have been climbing since the war in the Middle East began. As a result, self-employed owners are closely watching for price hikes in the packaging containers they use for delivery and takeout.
These concerns are evident on the online community for self-employed owners called "It Hurts to Be a Boss." A business owner identified as A wrote, "They say even standard trash bags are sold out, so I'm worried that delivery food containers might sell out as well." Another owner, B, recalled, "During the COVID-19 pandemic, people hoarded masks and prices went up," and added, "The same thing could happen with packaging containers, with some sellers trying to charge more, so we should buy them while they're still cheap."
Many self-employed owners now believe they should secure extra stock before prices go up. Owner C said, "I'm not exactly hoarding, but just in case, I placed my packaging container orders a bit earlier than usual and increased the quantity slightly," adding, "I'm thinking of it as keeping one extra box on hand." C continued, "The problem is organizing everything, so I installed one more rack just to store the additional boxes."
Owner D shared a similar experience, saying, "I ordered one box of packaging containers yesterday," and explained, "I don't have a warehouse, so I usually keep inventory very tight, but I rushed to buy them because I'm worried that I might not just face higher prices, but be unable to purchase them at all."
There are already cases where suppliers have notified clients of price increases. Owner E said, "I was informed that prices for some packaging containers will go up starting in April," and confessed, "I'm debating whether I should temporarily charge an extra 500 won for packaging."
