Vietnam to Elect President, Prime Minister and National Assembly Speaker in Early April

According to local media reports on the 26th, Tran Thanh Man, Speaker of the National Assembly, presided over the preparatory meeting for the first session of the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam. Man stressed, "This session will be a very important turning point, as it will finalize appointments to major state positions, including the President of Vietnam, the Prime Minister of Vietnam, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, as well as the Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Ministers, ministers of each ministry, and Standing Members of the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam."
He noted that with only about 10 days left before the opening of the session, preparations must be thoroughly reviewed, and any shortcomings should be reported promptly to the National Assembly leadership and its Standing Committee.
Vietnam’s current top leadership consists of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam, President of Vietnam Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam, National Assembly Speaker Tran Thanh Man, and Permanent Member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam Tran Cam Tu.
According to a communiqué released the previous day, the second meeting of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam approved a plan for the state institutional structure and nominations for senior positions for the 2026–2031 term. The Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam has been authorized to finalize the personnel proposals to be submitted to the National Assembly, based on internal consultations and voting results within the party.
Le Quang Manh, Secretary General of the National Assembly, stated that in addition to personnel matters, the upcoming session will deliberate and decide on nine draft laws and resolutions. He added that intensive discussions are also expected on five key areas, including socio-economic policy, finance, the state budget, and oversight activities.
The first session of the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam will open on April 6 and close on April 24, and is scheduled to run for a total of 11 days over two segments.
