[Financial News] Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party (PPP), on the 25th addressed the "Parliamentary Investigation into Alleged Fabricated Indictments by Political Prosecutors under the Yoon Suk Yeol Administration" being pushed by The Minjoo Party of Korea, and urged that he be called as a witness, asking, "Why can’t they summon me and only keep running away?"
Posting on Facebook the same day, Han said, "The Minjoo Party of Korea’s National Assembly inquiry into the cancellation of indictments against Lee Jae-myung means, 'Lee Jae-myung is guilty, so we will build this up with a sordid parliamentary inquiry and then cancel the indictments.'"
Han went on, "Among the witnesses for the National Assembly inquiry into the cancellation of indictments against Lee Jae-myung that The Minjoo Party of Korea requested, I, who was the Minister of Justice at the time, was left out," adding, "Just like with the Channel A Prosecutorial Collusion Scandal a few years ago, they should not be scared and run away. They should call me as the first witness. Even when I said I would appear even if they did not summon me, they stayed completely silent, and then they applied for as many as 102 witnesses while neatly excluding me."
He continued, "I was the Minister of Justice who personally persuaded a significant number of The Minjoo Party of Korea lawmakers to defect in the process over the Motion for the Arrest of President Lee Jae-myung, allowing it to pass. They should not exclude me just because they are afraid."
Han also argued, "They themselves seem not to know what exactly they claim was fabricated, but if there was fabrication, it would be a great opportunity to damage me, who was the Minister of Justice at the time. So why are they avoiding me and running away?" He added, "It is truly shameful given the large number of seats they hold."
He then said, "The Minjoo Party of Korea should stop harassing prosecutors, investigators, and public officials who simply did their jobs," and added, "The Minjoo Party of Korea should stop running away and summon me. If they notify me even just one hour in advance, I will appear immediately."
On the same day, at its first meeting, the Special Committee on Alleged Political Prosecution and Fabrication of the parliamentary probe into alleged fabricated indictments adopted 102 people as witnesses, including Prosecutor Park Sang-yong, who investigated the Ssangbangwool remittances-to-North-Korea case, and Prosecutor Kang Baek-shin, who led the probe into the Daejang-dong development corruption scandal.
In response, the People Power Party (PPP) protested, calling it "a parliamentary investigation aimed at canceling the indictments of President Lee Jae Myung, whose trial is still underway."
