According to The Financial News, China Eastern Airlines is launching a new non-stop route between Shanghai and Tashkent, taking on the role of a catalyst for expanded exchanges between China and Central Asia.
China Eastern Airlines announced on the 23rd that it will open a new non-stop route between Shanghai, China, and Tashkent, Uzbekistan, starting on the 30th. This follows the Xi’an–Tashkent route launched in July last year and is intended to strengthen Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation and expand people-to-people and cargo exchanges between China and Central Asia.
The Shanghai–Tashkent route will operate four times a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The outbound flight will depart from Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 1:40 p.m. local time and arrive in Tashkent at 6:40 p.m. The return flight will leave Tashkent at 8:20 p.m. and arrive in Shanghai at 6:15 a.m. the following day.
Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, is a city where diverse cultures and eras coexist. Visitors can explore Islamic architectural heritage such as Amir Temur Square, Hazrati Imam Mosque and Barakhon Madrasah. The city is gaining attention as a tourist destination that combines rich historical sites with modern attractions.
Recently, China and Uzbekistan have introduced a mutual visa-free policy, which is further boosting travel and exchanges between the two countries.
China Eastern Airlines stated, "Tickets for the Shanghai–Tashkent route are now on full sale," adding, "Customers who purchase tickets for departures through March 28 via the China Eastern Airlines app by the 29th can receive a 'flight discount coupon.'" The carrier is also offering a double reward points promotion for members traveling on flights departing on March 30 and April 2.
