[The Financial News] Samsung Electronics will enable its short-range wireless file transfer feature "Quick Share" to work with Apple's "AirDrop."
On the 23rd, Samsung Electronics stated on its newsroom, "We have introduced AirDrop functionality to the Samsung Galaxy S26 series," adding, "We will make it even easier to share content between devices through Quick Share."
Google and Apple have each provided short-range wireless file transfer through Quick Share and AirDrop, respectively. Both features search for nearby devices via Bluetooth and then transfer files using Wi-Fi Direct, but they have not been interoperable.
With this update, two-way file transfers will be possible between devices running different operating systems (OS), such as Samsung Galaxy (Google Android) and iPhone (iOS). The change is expected to resolve inconveniences that Galaxy and iPhone users have faced when sharing large files.
The new compatibility will first roll out in South Korea starting today via a Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) wireless software update. It will then be expanded sequentially to Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Latin America, North America, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and other regions.
Samsung Electronics added that it will announce at a later date whether this support will be extended to devices other than the Samsung Galaxy S26.
