U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a "48-hour ultimatum" to the Islamic Republic of Iran, further heightening military tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. As international oil prices surge, there is growing concern that clashes over control of the waterway could escalate into full-scale war.
Donald Trump delivered a hardline message to the Islamic Republic of Iran on Truth Social on the 21st (local time). He warned, "If you do not open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, you will face a new attack," effectively issuing a military ultimatum.
Trump went further, declaring, "We will start with the largest power plants and destroy a range of power facilities," signaling that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s key infrastructure could be directly targeted. His remarks made clear that not only military installations but also the country’s energy and power grid could become targets.
This is being interpreted as the United States moving beyond limited military responses and openly raising an escalation option that directly targets the economic foundations of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
