Financial News – A man in his 20s who broke into a jewelry shop in the early morning hours and stole gold jewelry weighing about 200 don has been arrested by police at the departure hall of Incheon International Airport while trying to flee.
On the 20th, Suwon Jangan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that it had urgently arrested a man identified only as A on suspicion of aggravated theft. A is accused of breaking into a jewelry shop located in Jangan District, Suwon, at around 4:00 a.m. that day and stealing gold jewelry and gold bars totaling about 200 don, worth roughly 200 million won.
A allegedly arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, smashed the glass door with a hammer, and then entered the store to commit the crime. He is also suspected of attempting another burglary at a different nearby jewelry shop at around 4:12 a.m., using the same method, but failing to complete the theft.
Investigating officers identified A and began tracking him using CCTV footage and other means. They succeeded in arresting him at around 4:50 p.m. at the Incheon Airport departure hall, roughly 12 hours after the crime took place.
When A was apprehended, he was reportedly carrying some of the stolen jewelry and cash. A police official stated, "We believe A tried to dispose of the stolen goods and then flee overseas."
Police have taken A to the station for questioning to determine the full circumstances of the crime and plan to consider whether to request an arrest warrant.
