The Financial News reported on the 20th that Netflix held a pre-media briefing for "BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE: ARIRANG," where it presented its vision for the live comeback broadcast and the collaboration that made the project possible. The comeback live show will take place at 8 p.m. on the 21st at Gwanghwamun and will be streamed live worldwide via Netflix.
Brandon Riegg, Netflix vice president for nonfiction series and sports, said, "Netflix has contributed to the global spread of Korean culture through Korean drama (K-drama) and K-movies. This BTS live show is a cultural event that extends that role into Korean popular music (K-pop)." Netflix is preparing "watch party" events in the United States of America (US), Brazil, and other countries so BTS fans around the world can gather in one place and share in the excitement of Gwanghwamun Square.
Garrett English, the head producer of the comeback live show, explained, "We focused on the harmony between tradition and modernity," adding, "We wanted to create a dynamic performance space that respects the historical significance of Gwanghwamun while blending it with BTS’s contemporary elements." He added, "Through the camera setup, we designed the show to capture not only the grand scale of the event but also the sense of intimacy between the members and their fans."
Yoo Dong-joo, head of HYBE Music Group for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, said, "Netflix is the partner best suited to realize HYBE’s vision of expanding the fan experience," as he outlined the background of the collaboration. He stated, "Having fandom and the general public, Koreans and foreigners, all enjoy a performance together at one of the most iconic locations in Korea is a culturally rare experience, and I believe sharing that experience globally is deeply meaningful."
