[The Financial News] With heavy traffic congestion expected around Gwanghwamun on the 21st due to a BTS concert, police are launching a transport operation for wedding guests.
According to Yonhap News Agency on the 20th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) plans to deploy police buses between Euljiro 3-ga Station and the Korea Press Center from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the 21st, the day of the BTS concert, to shuttle wedding guests.
On the day of the concert, trains will not stop at nearby subway stations and city buses will be rerouted, effectively cutting off public transportation in the area. Depending on crowd conditions, trains may also pass through Euljiro 1-ga Station without stopping, leaving guests no choice but to walk more than 1 kilometer from Euljiro 3-ga Station to the wedding venue.
Police determined that, due to the extensive traffic controls, the inconvenience to the bride and groom and their guests would be excessive, and therefore decided to provide transport support. The couple has reportedly agreed to the plan, and the specific bus operation details are still being coordinated.
Meanwhile, BTS will hold "BTS The Comeback Live: Arirang" (BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG) at 8 p.m. on the 21st in the Gwanghwamun Square area. The concert will be free and broadcast live via Netflix to more than 190 countries around the world.
Police expect up to 260,000 people to gather from the stage area to Sungnyemun Gate (Namdaemun), which would be the largest crowd since the street cheering during the 2002 FIFA World Cup, when an estimated 200,000 to 250,000 people turned out.
To manage the crowds and prepare for potential terrorist threats on the day of the concert, authorities will mobilize 72 riot police units, 35 detective teams, and more than 6,700 police officers.
In addition, about 8,200 safety management personnel will be deployed, and 102 fire trucks will be dispatched.
