[The Financial News] Jang Kyung-tae of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) announced on the 20th that he intends to leave the party. The move is seen as a response to the Investigation Review Committee’s announcement the previous day that it would refer to the prosecution service a case in which he is accused of sexually harassing a staffer from another lawmaker’s office at a drinking gathering in 2023.
On the same day, Jang stated via a social networking service (SNS) post, "Today, I intend to leave the party I have belonged to for 20 years."
Jang argued, "Even though the evidence regarding the allegation is uncertain, the Investigation Review Committee was swayed by the investigative team’s view, leading to an opinion in favor of referral," adding, "Although there has been controversy over the investigation process, I will faithfully comply with the remaining procedures and will make sure to prove that the accusation is false."
