[Financial News] Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, held a one-on-one meeting with Roh Tae-moon, president and head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, following her talks with Jun Young-hyun, head of the Device Solutions (DS) Division of Samsung Electronics. Observers see this as a sign that the two companies are broadening their collaboration beyond semiconductors into finished products.
On the morning of the 19th, around 9 a.m., Su visited Samsung Town Headquarters Seocho in Seoul and met with Roh. Before the meeting, when reporters asked her what topics she planned to discuss with Roh and whether she expected to strengthen the alliance around AI PCs, Su briefly replied, "We will probably talk about many topics" and "Let’s see."
Given that AMD is a major manufacturer of graphics processing units (GPUs) used in PCs and other DX products, the two sides are expected to explore cooperation on AI PCs and ways to bolster premium mobile competitiveness. With on-device AI spreading rapidly and computation performance inside devices becoming more critical, analysts say the technological overlap between the two companies could expand further.
The previous day, Su met Jun Young-hyun, head of the Device Solutions (DS) Division of Samsung Electronics, and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) focused on expanding cooperation in next-generation AI memory and computing technologies. She also had dinner with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong at Seungjiwon, Samsung Group’s VIP guest house, where they discussed potential areas of collaboration.
After her meeting with Roh, following the session with Jun, Su told reporters that she considers Samsung Electronics "an excellent partner" and described her talks with Roh as "great."

Meanwhile, on her first visit to Korea since becoming CEO in 2014, Su has been holding a series of back-to-back meetings with executives from domestic information technology (IT) companies.
Early that morning, Sung Kim, CEO of Upstage, met Su at Four Seasons Hotel Seoul, where they discussed various forms of cooperation to drive AI innovation. As part of this partnership, Upstage plans over the next year to introduce AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs in phases and use them to develop its proprietary large language model (LLM) "Solar" and document-processing AI solutions.
As the lead company in the government-led "independent AI foundation model" project, Upstage also intends to actively use AMD GPUs in developing Korea’s flagship national AI model.
Through these efforts, the two companies aim to strengthen Korea’s AI ecosystem while jointly contributing to diversifying the country’s sovereign AI infrastructure.
In addition, Su met Ha Jung-woo, Senior Presidential Secretary for AI Future Planning at Cheong Wa Dae (the Blue House), and Im Moon-young, vice chair of the National AI Strategy Committee. They are reported to have discussed the Korean government’s "AI top-three" strategy and ways to promote high-performance computing cooperation between AMD and Korean companies. On the same day, she also had an unscheduled meeting with Bae Kyung-hoon, Minister of Science and ICT.
