Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, is holding separate meetings not only with the head of Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions (DS) Division, but also with Roh Tae-moon, president and head of the Device eXperience Division (DX Division). Observers expect the two companies to broaden their collaboration, extending beyond semiconductors into finished products as well.
On the 19th, Su arrived at around 9 a.m. at Samsung Town Headquarters in Seocho in Seoul and held a meeting with Roh.
Before the meeting, when asked by reporters what topics she would discuss with Roh and whether she expected to strengthen their "AI PC alliance," Su briefly replied, "I think we will talk about many topics" and "Let’s see."
As AMD is a major manufacturer of graphics processing units (GPU) used in PCs and other DX products, the two sides are expected to explore cooperation on AI PCs and ways to enhance competitiveness in premium mobile devices. With On-device AI spreading rapidly and boosting the importance of computing power within devices, analysts say the technological overlap between the two companies could expand further.
The previous day, Su met with Jun Young-hyun, head of Samsung Electronics’ DS Division, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on expanding cooperation in next-generation AI memory and computing technologies. She also had a dinner meeting with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong at Seungjiwon, Samsung Group’s VIP guest house, where they discussed further partnership opportunities.
