[The Financial News] Remarried couple Young-cheol and Young-ja from Season 28 of "I'm Solo" have opened up about conflicts that arose after their remarriage.
On the March 17 episode of tvN STORY's "Lee Hosun's Counseling Center," Young-cheol and Young-ja appeared as guests. The two met through the divorced singles special in Season 28 of Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) reality show "I'm Solo."
On the show, the couple revealed, "We remarried this past January, but we've been experiencing conflicts since the very beginning of our newlywed life."
Young-cheol said, "The process of getting married was not easy," and continued, "Many people learned about our marriage through the show. So our arguments are not just about issues between the two of us, but also about the way others look at us."
Young-ja in particular confessed that she has been feeling anxious because of malicious comments that continued after the broadcast and rumors that Young-cheol had cheated. She said, "People around me were very worried, and the rumors were really hard on me," adding that at one point she even asked Young-cheol to show her the written divorce settlement with his ex-wife.
Young-ja admitted, "Even now, I don't think I'm very good at saying what's really in my heart. I didn't want to bring things up because I was afraid he would feel bad. But when it came to the comments, I asked him about them after mustering a lot of courage. I was scared."
She also spoke about the emotional scars from her previous marriage. She later discovered her ex-husband's hidden debts and that her mother-in-law was not actually his biological mother. These revelations led to deep distrust and ultimately to cutting off the relationship. "He acted as if it wasn't lying because he had simply 'not told me,'" she recalled, looking back on that time.
In response, Young-cheol explained, "I could feel that the pain and hurt from her first marriage were still there. She would often say that we have to keep checking so we don't repeat the same mistakes."
He went on, "At first I understood, but I started to wonder why I have to pay for what her ex-husband did wrong." He added, "My wife really doesn't trust me. As the rumors snowball, if something seems even slightly off, she says, 'Let's break up.' It's like she's ready to flip everything over at any moment. I worry about whether I can ever truly earn her trust."
Money issues were also cited as a source of conflict. Young-cheol revealed that he spends about 2 million won at a time on hobbies such as playing in a band. Young-ja responded, saying, "I wish he would cut back for realistic reasons." She then confessed, "I don't know exactly how much my husband earns or spends."
Professor Lee Ho-seon, the counselor on the show, pointed out, "The problems this couple is facing stem from trust and money issues carried over from their previous marriages," and stressed, "Marriage is all about trust and money." She added, "They are not here because something is terribly wrong, but because they want to live better together."
Meanwhile, Young-cheol and Young-ja first appeared on the divorced singles special in Season 28 of "I'm Solo," where they became a final couple and then developed into a real-life couple. The two went on to marry this January and are now husband and wife.
