[Financial News] Lisa Su, CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), will meet with Korean AI startup Upstage. The meeting is expected to explore potential cooperation focused on AI semiconductor-based infrastructure and model operation environments.
According to industry sources on the 18th, Lisa Su is scheduled to hold a closed-door meeting with Upstage CEO Sung Kim on the 19th. Key agenda items reportedly include data center infrastructure using AMD's AI accelerators (GPUs) and optimization of environments for model training and inference.
Upstage is working to expand its presence in the enterprise AI market with its own large language model (LLM), "Solar." However, securing stable computing resources has become essential for further advancing large-scale models and scaling services. The upcoming meeting is seen as closely tied to this demand.
For AMD as well, this is a critical time to secure partners to help expand its AI semiconductor ecosystem. The company has been pursuing a strategy of collaborating with various model developers to further develop its GPU-based software and operating environments, drawing attention to the possibility of cooperation with Korean AI startups.
Industry observers view this meeting as an opportunity to explore collaboration that combines AI infrastructure with AI models. They note that as infrastructure competitiveness in areas such as semiconductors and data centers has emerged as a key factor in the AI industry, partnerships between model developers and chipmakers are becoming increasingly common.
During her visit to Korea, Lisa Su is also expected to hold a series of meetings with major domestic IT companies, including Samsung Electronics and Naver, to discuss possible areas of cooperation.
