[Financial News] Shin Ramyun from Nongshim made a surprise appearance at the 98th Academy Awards, drawing attention.
On the 16th (local time), writer Maren Gu, wife of Chris Appelhans, co-director of the Netflix animated film "KPop Demon Hunters" (hereafter "KPop Demon Hunters"), uploaded a photo on Instagram showing Appelhans eating Shin Ramyun.
In the photo, Appelhans is wearing a tuxedo and sitting in the audience at the Oscars, casually opening a bag of Shin Ramyun featuring KPop Demon Hunters and eating the dry noodles with wooden chopsticks. Gu also posted a picture of herself holding an Oscars ticket and a bag of Shin Ramyun.
After the photos were released, online users reacted with comments such as, "Is that real and not edited?" and "Crunching on uncooked ramyun is actually delicious."
Maren Gu is a Korean painter and well-known author, and Chris Appelhans is also known to have a deep affection for Korean culture.
Nongshim, the maker of Shin Ramyun, teamed up with KPop Demon Hunters for a large-scale marketing campaign to target the North American market. After scenes of characters eating cup ramyun in the film drew attention, Nongshim released a special Shin Ramyun edition featuring the in-universe group HUNTR/X members Rumi, Mira, and Joy on the packaging.
Meanwhile, KPop Demon Hunters followed up its wins at the Golden Globe Awards and the Grammy Awards by taking home both Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the Oscars.
Appelhans is also preparing to co-direct season 2 of "KPop Demon Hunters" with Maggie Kang.
Appelhans is set to appear on the MBC every1 program "Welcome, First Time in Korea?" where he will show his trip to Korea with his five-year-old son, who wants to learn Hangul after watching "KPop Demon Hunters" with his mother, Maren Gu.
