According to Financial News, YouTube said on the 17th that it has added the Chinese e-commerce platform AliExpress as a new partner to its Shopping affiliate program.
The YouTube Shopping affiliate program helps creators generate additional income by allowing them to feature products from partner companies in their content. Since the program was introduced in Korea in June last year, YouTube has expanded its partners to include Coupang, Kurly, Ohouse, and CJ OnStyle.
YouTube noted that the partnership with AliExpress gives creators in a wide range of fields more products they can tag in their videos, including IT device reviews, budget-friendly interior items, and unboxing of products purchased from overseas sites.
As of June last year, more than 45% of eligible creators in Korea had already joined the program, according to YouTube. As of July the same year, over 15 million users in Korea conducted shopping-related searches on YouTube.
YouTube added that by expanding partnerships, including with AliExpress, it plans to broaden creators’ opportunities to earn revenue and increase product choices, while also introducing features based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
