According to The Financial News, Susie Wiles, chief of staff to U.S. President Donald Trump, has disclosed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Wiles stated that she intends to remain in her post and continue her duties while undergoing treatment.
On the 16th (local time), foreign media including the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that Wiles issued a statement saying, "One in eight women in America receives this diagnosis," and, "I now join the ranks of the many women who support their families and devote themselves in the workplace."
She added that thanks to early detection, "the prognosis is very positive," but did not disclose specific details of her treatment plan.
Trump praised Wiles on the social media platform Truth Social, calling her "an extraordinary fighter" and expressing his unwavering confidence in her. "Susie, one of my closest and most important advisers, is a strong person dedicated to the American people," Trump wrote, adding that she "will in effect be working full time at the White House even during her treatment."
Shortly after announcing her diagnosis, Wiles accompanied Trump to a John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts-related event held at the White House on the same day, underscoring that she remains active. Trump patted her on the shoulder and encouraged her, saying she was experiencing "a minor difficulty" but "will be fine soon."
Wiles, 68, is credited as a key architect of Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election and became the first woman ever to serve as White House chief of staff.
In a magazine interview earlier this year, she sparked controversy by bluntly describing the teetotaler Trump’s personality as being "like an alcoholic." Trump, however, strongly defended her at the time, demonstrating the deep trust between them.
