[Financial News] The fact that former People Power Party (PPP) leader Han Dong-hoon visited Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan to watch a professional baseball preseason game has added momentum to speculation that he may run for office in Busan.
On the 14th, Han visited Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, where a preseason game between the Lotte Giants and the LG Twins was being held.
According to the YouTube channel Beyond, Han showed up at the ballpark wearing a Lotte Giants jersey bearing the name of the late pitcher Choi Dong-won. This came just a week after he visited Gupo Market in Busan’s Buk-gu on the 7th, marking his second trip to Busan in as many weeks.
Some in political circles interpret Han’s recent moves as possibly preparing a run in the upcoming Busan by-election. Han has previously highlighted his ties to Busan by talking about baseball. During a visit to Daegu on the 27th of last month, he also hinted at the possibility of running in the upcoming local elections or a by-election.
However, Han’s side has maintained that “the by-election has not yet been finalized.” Jeon Jae-su, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea representing the Busan Buk-gap constituency, and Joo Jin-woo, a PPP lawmaker for the Busan Haeundae-gu A constituency, have both announced their intention to run for Mayor of Busan. If they resign, by-elections will be held in their districts on the same day as the June 3 local elections.
