[Financial News] Authorities have uncovered evidence that Kim So-young, the suspect in the "Gangbuk Motel Serial Murder Case," committed similar crimes against three additional men.
At a regular press briefing held at the National Police Agency in Seodaemun District, Seoul, on the 16th, a police official stated, "We have additionally booked (the suspect, Kim So-young) on charges of inflicting bodily injury on three newly identified victims."
Investigators found that between October last year and January this year, the three men separately met Kim in areas including Seocho District and Gangbuk District, Seoul, and drank beverages containing benzodiazepine-based drugs. According to an analysis by the National Forensic Service (NFS), the same substances, including benzodiazepine that Kim was found to have put into the drinks, were detected in the body of one of the three.
For one of the remaining two, the police are still awaiting the NFS test results, while in the other case no such substances were detected. However, police are reportedly considering the possibility that the drugs were not found because a significant amount of time had passed since the alleged offenses.
From mid-December last year to February 9, Kim is accused of giving beverages containing benzodiazepine-based drugs to three men in their 20s, causing them to lose consciousness or die. She was indicted and placed on trial in custody on February 10 on charges including murder and violating the Narcotics Control Act.
Prosecutors have characterized Kim's crimes as both motive-abnormal and premeditated. During the investigation, Kim claimed that she did not intend to commit the offenses, denying criminal intent.
Earlier, Kim scored 25 out of 40 on the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) administered by police, a result that classified her as a psychopath.
On March 9, based on the review by the Personal Information Disclosure Review Committee, prosecutors released her name, age, and mugshot.
The first trial for Kim is scheduled to be held at 3:30 p.m. on April 9 at the Seoul Northern District Court.
