Jang Dong-hyeok, party leader of the People Power Party (PPP), announced on the 16th that he will push to revise the recently implemented Yellow Envelope Act, which amended Articles 2 and 3 of the Trade Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act.
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea that day, Jang said, "Just two days after the law took effect, more than 450 subcontractor unions have rushed to demand negotiations with their parent companies," adding, "At this rate, we will end up spending all our time on labor-management negotiations 365 days a year."
Jang continued, "Countries around the world are throwing everything into technological innovation and structural reform," and pointed out, "Yet because of the Yellow Envelope Act, we are now in a situation where we may even need union approval just to move a single production line."
Regarding the demand from the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) public sector labor union that President Lee Jae-myung personally take part in negotiations, he said, "President Lee Jae-myung is now in a position where he may have to sit at the labor-management bargaining table," and added, "If he does not, it could even be considered a violation of the Yellow Envelope Act. They rammed the law through without restraint, so they must take responsibility."
He went on, "Many companies are already trying to replace workers with artificial intelligence (AI) and robots, and as a result, jobs for our young people will disappear," stressing, "Our party will actively push for a re-revision of the Yellow Envelope Act to prevent chaos in workplaces and to establish fair labor-management relations."
