[Financial News] Mike Waltz, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations and former White House National Security Advisor, said, "U.S. President Donald Trump is not ruling out the option of airstrikes on energy infrastructure, in addition to military facilities, on Kharg Island, Iran’s key oil export hub."
In an interview with Cable News Network (CNN) on the 15th local time, Waltz was asked whether the United States is considering an attack on Kharg Island’s oil facilities. He predicted, "President Trump will not take any option off the table." He went on, "President Trump has so far deliberately targeted only military facilities," adding, "If he decides he wants to strike Iran’s energy infrastructure as well, he will clearly keep that option open."
Earlier, on the afternoon of the 13th, Trump wrote on Truth Social, calling Kharg Island "Iran’s Crown Jewel" and declaring, "We have completely destroyed all military targets there." He also said he had chosen not to destroy the island’s oil infrastructure "out of decency."
Kharg Island is a 22-square-kilometer coral island in the northern Persian Gulf. It serves as an oil export terminal that handles about 950 million barrels a year and accounts for roughly 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports. Market observers warn that if the United States attacks or seizes the island’s energy infrastructure, concerns over disruptions to Middle Eastern oil supplies will intensify and oil prices could surge further.
