[Financial News] A modest home of about 33 square meters (around 350 square feet) where Elon Musk, one of the richest people in the world and CEO of Tesla, lives has drawn wide attention.
Dima Zeniuk, an overseas blogger who covers news about Tesla and SpaceX, recently posted photos on X (formerly Twitter) showing the interior of Musk’s home near Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas.
He described it as "a space with almost no flashy decorations and only the bare minimum of items needed for daily life."
In the released photos, the interior has an open-plan layout where the living room and kitchen are connected without any separating walls. Only basic furnishings are visible, such as white cabinets, a stainless-steel refrigerator, a gas stove, and a sink. There are no notable paintings or decorations on the walls.
On the wooden table in the center of the living room sit a rocket-shaped ornament and several books, with a Japanese sword (katana) placed alongside them.
Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, also commented on the post, writing, "There was almost no food in the refrigerator and only one towel," and added, "I had to give that towel up for my son. I slept in the garage on the right side of the house."
She went on, "When I was young, I spent weeks in the Kalahari Desert without being able to shower because of water shortages, so I’m used to living in conditions like this."
Back in 2021, as controversy grew over his growing wealth, Musk declared that he would "own no house." He then sold three homes he owned in the wealthy Bel Air neighborhood near Los Angeles (LA) for about 40.9 million dollars (approximately 61 billion won) and began living in a prefab home.
This prefab house is a foldable modular home called the Boxabl Casita, made by U.S. housing startup Boxabl, and is priced at around 50,000 dollars (about 74 million won). It is a compact home of about 34 square meters, equipped with a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and other essentials.
In 2021, Musk also wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "My primary residence is a house worth about 50,000 dollars in Boca Chica near Starbase, and I’m renting it from SpaceX."
Meanwhile, according to U.S. business magazine Forbes, Musk holds assets worth 839 billion dollars (about 1,230 trillion won), making him the world’s richest billionaire for the second consecutive year.
