[The Financial News] United States President Donald Trump, speaking about a possible strike on the Islamic Republic of Iran, said, "I will hit Iran very hard next week."
According to foreign media reports, Trump stressed this point in a Fox News interview released on the 13th (local time) while discussing the situation in the Middle East.
Regarding possible escort operations for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said, "If necessary, we will do that," but added, "I hope things work out very well, and we will have to see what happens."
Although the timing of the interview has not been made public, Trump had already said on the 3rd that "if necessary, the United States Navy will begin escorting oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible."
Despite large-scale airstrikes by the USA and the State of Israel, the Islamic Republic of Iran has elected a new supreme leader. In his first public message, the newly chosen Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei warned of a possible blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and declared a hard-line stance. As a result, international oil prices have climbed above 100 dollars per barrel, and anxiety in the international community is rising.
