According to The Financial News, President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea on the 13th expressed his appreciation to Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Park Joo-min, who chairs the Health and Welfare Committee of the National Assembly, after the National Medical Graduate School Establishment Bill (Act on the Establishment and Operation of the National Graduate School of Medicine) passed the committee.
After the bill cleared the committee, President Lee took to X (formerly Twitter), reposted a message by Park Joo-min, the chair of the Health and Welfare Committee of the National Assembly, and wrote, “It was not an easy task, and I am grateful for this achievement in medical reform.”
The bill provides for the state to establish a national graduate school of medicine to train doctors who will work in the public healthcare sector. Those doctors would be required to serve in public healthcare for 15 years after obtaining their medical licenses.
Attention is focusing on President Lee’s message because Park Joo-min is currently a preliminary candidate in the Democratic Party primary for Seoul mayoral candidate.
Last December, President Lee also publicly praised Chong Won-o, one of the preliminary contenders in the Democratic Party primary for Seoul mayoral candidate and the Seongdong District Mayor, remarking, “He must be quite good at his job.”
