[The Financial News] A foreign national who installed drug manufacturing equipment in his residence and produced pill-type narcotics by mixing methamphetamine and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy) has been arrested by police.
Seoul Gangdong Police Station announced on the 13th that it had arrested and detained a foreign national in his 30s, identified only as A, and referred him to prosecutors on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
To cover his living expenses, A allegedly conspired with an unidentified person overseas and, from late January until the 6th of this month, installed a pill press (tablet compression machine) in a house in Busan Metropolitan City. He is accused of mixing powdered drug ingredients in specific ratios, manufacturing them into pill-type narcotics, and then distributing them.
Police found that A mixed powdered drug ingredients he had received through an unidentified delivery route and produced tablet-form narcotics, which he then distributed both wholesale and retail using the so-called "dead drop" method.
Acting on intelligence about drug distribution and tracking the case, police arrested A and, during a search of his residence, seized drug manufacturing equipment including the pill press, along with 4,000 tablets of narcotics (about 2 kilograms) and 1.3 kilograms of powdered narcotics, for a total of 3.3 kilograms of illegal drugs.
Police have requested a detailed forensic analysis of the seized narcotics and manufacturing equipment, and are investigating additional distribution channels and the possible involvement of accomplices.
A police official said, "If you suspect something may be drugs, please do not hesitate to report it to the police," adding, "We will continue to conduct strict investigations into drug-related crimes."
