According to The Financial News, President Lee Jae Myung will hold a summit on April 1 with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who will be in South Korea on a state visit to South Korea.
Spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong of Cheong Wa Dae, also known as the Blue House, announced on the 13th that President Prabowo Subianto will make a state visit to South Korea from March 31 to April 2 at the invitation of President Lee Jae Myung.
President Prabowo is returning to South Korea roughly five months after his last visit, when he held a bilateral summit with President Lee Jae Myung on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Gyeongju last October.
On April 1, the two leaders will attend an official welcome ceremony, hold a summit meeting, witness a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony, and join a state luncheon. They are expected to discuss in depth ways to elevate their special strategic partnership, including expanding trade and investment and deepening cooperation in defense and the defense industry, as well as strengthening practical cooperation in new growth sectors such as artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies, infrastructure, shipbuilding, nuclear power, energy transition, and cultural and creative industries.
They also plan to hold extensive discussions on enhancing Indonesia–South Korea relations with Indonesia, a key partner within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the world’s largest Muslim-majority country. In addition, they will address regional dynamics in the Middle East and on the Korean Peninsula, along with responses to major global issues.
According to Cheong Wa Dae, Indonesia is ASEAN’s largest economy, with the world’s fourth-largest population and abundant natural resources, and it hosts the ASEAN Secretariat, playing a leading role within ASEAN. Under its Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision, which aims for the country to become an advanced economy by the 100th anniversary of independence in 2045, Indonesia is actively pursuing economic and industrial upgrading. It is also the first destination for South Korean companies’ overseas investment and the first export market for South Korea’s weapons systems, as well as the country’s first partner in jointly developing a fighter jet, making it a particularly important regional economic cooperation partner and ally.
Around 2,300 South Korean companies are currently operating in Indonesia, and people-to-people exchanges are active, with about 800,000 mutual visits between the two countries’ citizens each year.
Cheong Wa Dae stated, "President Prabowo’s state visit is expected to further strengthen solidarity and cooperation between our two countries, which have built solid trust over more than half a century since establishing diplomatic relations in 1973, in order to achieve sustainable prosperity and contribute as responsible middle powers to stability and peace in the region and the world."
