[Financial News] An active-duty soldier in his 20s, who was driving under the influence near Cheongdam Sageori Intersection in Gangnam District, Seoul, hit a citizen who was loading items into a vehicle from behind. Immediately after the crash, the driver left his car at the scene, took a taxi to a hospital, and was later apprehended by police.
According to police on the 12th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul arrested a man in his 20s, identified only as A, as a flagrant offender on suspicion of drunk driving and fleeing the scene causing injury under the Road Traffic Act.
The investigation found that at around 7:16 a.m. that day, A was driving on a road near Cheongdam Sageori Intersection when he crashed into a Kia Carnival that was stopped ahead. At the time, A's blood alcohol concentration was high enough for license revocation, and the Carnival driver, who had been loading luggage into the trunk, was injured after being struck from behind.
After the accident, A left his vehicle at the scene, took a taxi to the nearby Soonchunhyang University Hospital, and was then taken into custody by police. Because he is an active-duty soldier, the case will be transferred to the Military Police (MP), and the police will not pursue separate charges.
A male passenger in his 20s who was in the vehicle at the time was also found to have a blood alcohol level high enough for license revocation. Police voluntarily brought the passenger in for questioning and plan to charge him with aiding and abetting drunk driving.
