According to The Financial News, prosecutors have asked the appellate court to again impose prison sentences on the group that tried to extort a large sum of money by claiming that Son Heung-min of Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) had impregnated her.
On the 11th, at the first hearing of the appeal trial for A, a woman in her 20s, and B, a man in his 40s, on charges including extortion, held before Criminal Appeals Division 2-1 of the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by Presiding Judge Kwak Jeong-han with Judge Kim Yong-hee and Judge Cho Eun-a, prosecutors requested, "Please dismiss the defendants’ appeal."
In the first trial, the court sentenced A to four years in prison and B to two years in prison.
A was indicted on charges of extorting 300 million won from Son Heung-min in June 2024 by threatening to reveal that she was pregnant with his child.
Together with B, she is also accused of demanding an additional 70 million won between March and May last year by threatening to disclose the alleged pregnancy and abortion to the media and to Son’s family.
According to the prosecution’s investigation, A initially informed another man that she was pregnant and tried to demand money from him, but dropped the attempt when he did not respond. She then told Son Heung-min’s side that she was pregnant with his child and demanded money. Son’s side, fearing public backlash and damage to his career as a professional athlete, is believed to have paid her 300 million won.
Investigators found that after A squandered all the money she received from Son’s side on luxury goods and fell into financial hardship, she again demanded money from Son’s side, this time together with B, with whom she was in a romantic relationship.
In her final statement, A referred to Son Heung-min and pleaded, "I believe he must have suffered great shock and pain, and I do not know how to ask for forgiveness. I want to offer him my sincere apology."
She added, "I am afraid that, even if my case continues to be widely reported, I will have to live each day in fear of when, where, and how I might be threatened and my identity might be exposed."
B also bowed his head and said, "I apologize for causing a scandal out of selfish greed and poor judgment, and for inflicting pain on the victim."
At the hearing, A’s side admitted the charge of extorting 300 million won, but denied conspiring with B to extort an additional 70 million won, stating, "There was no conspiracy between us."
Sentencing for the two defendants is scheduled for the 8th of next month.
