[The Financial News] As South Korea and Japan advanced to the second round by making it through Group C of the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC), a particular ice cream at Tokyo Dome has drawn attention off the field, becoming a big hit among foreign media and officials on site.
The MLB office posted a photo on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on the 10th (local time) of an ice cream being sold inside Tokyo Dome. Along with the photo, it added, "You have to see this. The ice cream sandwich at Tokyo Dome is absolutely incredible."
The product is the Tokyo Dome Monaka Ice Cream, priced at 400 yen (about 3,700 won), shaped after the exterior of Tokyo Dome. It even reproduces the distinctive roof pattern of the domed stadium in fine detail, catching the eye.
According to Japanese outlet Sports Hochi, this snack has enjoyed steady popularity for 38 years, ever since Tokyo Dome opened in 1988, and is sold in two flavors: chocolate and vanilla.
Recently, as word spread among overseas reporters about its taste and appearance, it quickly emerged as a must-try item.
American photojournalist Joshua Mullen also introduced the product on his social media. He wrote, "If Tokyo Dome were an ice cream sandwich, I would eat it. And I actually did."
Baseball fans who saw the posts reacted with comments such as, "Why don’t we have this in the U.S.?", "Where can I buy this?", and "Unbelievable."
