According to The Financial News, Kai Madison Trump is facing backlash after posting a video on her YouTube channel showing herself shopping at an ultra-luxury grocery store.
On the 9th (local time), outlets including the New York Post reported that Kai Madison Trump uploaded a vlog of about 19 minutes.
The video shows her visiting Erewhon Market, a high-end organic grocery store in LA, and shopping there.
The video is titled "I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon," and in it,
agents from the United States Secret Service (USSS) accompany her and even help with the filming.
Kai Madison Trump is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Donald Trump. She is active as a golfer and influencer, has about 1.45 million subscribers on YouTube, and drew attention when she delivered a supporting speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) during the 2024 United States presidential election.
In the video, she looks over the prices of items on the shelves and says, "Erewhon Market is probably the most expensive grocery store in the world," adding, "Everything is insanely expensive, but I'm going to buy some of my favorite things."
She then spots a sweatshirt priced at 165 dollars (about 240,000 won), pretends to recoil, and jokes, "I'm going to go bankrupt at this rate. I might have to file for bankruptcy."
After purchasing several groceries, Kai Madison Trump gets into a security vehicle, drinks a smoothie, and introduces the items she bought. Her total bill for the day came to 223 dollars (about 330,000 won).
What especially drew attention at the end of the video was the tight security provided by the USSS for her shopping trip. When she finished shopping and came out, the security team completely blocked off a nearby road to pick her up, and a long convoy of security vehicles filled the area in front of the store.
The video racked up more than 170,000 views in about a day and became a hot topic, but the comments section quickly filled with criticism. Online users wrote, "So many people are struggling just to cover living expenses," "She is completely out of touch with reality," "It’s depressing to think my tax money is being used for this," "The world is suffering and she feels no guilt at all," and "The French have started revolts over far more trivial things."
The controversy has also revived criticism of Kai Madison Trump’s earlier videos. Previously, she sparked debate by posting a vlog of herself flying first class to watch an NBA All-Star Game in person, as well as a selfie video shot on an airport runway with a military helicopter in the background.
