[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung will hold a summit with President John Dramani Mahama of the Republic of Ghana on the afternoon of the 11th.
Spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong of Cheong Wa Dae said in a briefing on the 10th that President Mahama will pay a working visit to Korea from that day until the 14th.
President Mahama is the first African head of state to visit Korea since Lee Jae-myung took office. A visit to Korea by a Ghanaian president comes about two years after the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit.
The Republic of Ghana has maintained friendly relations with Korea for nearly 50 years since establishing diplomatic ties in 1977. It is a leading democracy in Africa and serves as a trade and logistics hub in West Africa, hosting the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which was launched in 2021.
Spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong stated, "During the summit, the two leaders plan to discuss ways to strengthen practical cooperation in a wide range of areas, including trade and investment, maritime security and protection of overseas nationals, defense and defense industry, climate change response, as well as education and culture."
