[The Financial News] As a video spreads of Blackpink member Jennie expressing fatigue over relentless autograph requests on a street in Paris, France, her agency has announced a tough response to invasions of her privacy.
Jennie’s personal agency Odd Atelier Entertainment (OA Entertainment) stated on the 9th, "Recently, malicious slander and baseless speculative posts about our artist Jennie have been continuously posted on online communities and social media, spreading false information and damaging the artist’s reputation."
The agency went on, "We are taking the situation very seriously, as there has been a rise not only in cases where false posts based on completely untrue information are being circulated and harming the artist’s reputation, but also in acts that invade her privacy, such as disrupting her personal time or following her movements."
Earlier, online communities and social media platforms shared a video showing Jennie surrounded by a crowd in the streets of Paris.
In the video, Jennie is walking down the street when she is suddenly blocked by a swarm of people. They follow her, try to talk to her, and push pens toward her while asking for autographs.
A person believed to be her manager can be heard saying, "If she signs, will you please let us go?" Looking exhausted, Jennie pleads, "Please respect my privacy," and adds, "Can I please have my own time?" and "This is really stressful."
Jennie then began signing for some of the fans, but the situation did not improve, with people who had already received her autograph asking again. She eventually refused, saying, "Please keep your promise."
At the scene, her manager was also seen repeatedly asking those demanding more autographs, "Didn’t you already get one earlier?" and "Are you planning to resell these?" This led some to speculate that so‐called resellers, who obtain autographs to sell them at high prices, were mixed into the crowd.
Jennie is known for readily signing autographs for fans and greeting them with a bright smile. However, as the video spread, some online comments criticized her, saying, "She’s not who she used to be" and "Couldn’t she just smile and sign?"
Others countered with comments such as, "Her privacy should be respected," "She deserves her personal time," and "This is truly rude."
As the controversy grew, the agency ultimately declared, "We plan to respond firmly, including pursuing civil and criminal legal action, against any acts that infringe on the artist’s honor, rights, portrait rights, and other intellectual property rights, as well as acts that invade her privacy. There will be no leniency or settlements in this process."
