[The Financial News] An update on Koo Jun-yup, a member of the group Clon who recently lost his wife, the late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, has been shared by his mother-in-law, Huang Chun-mei.
On the 9th, Taiwanese outlet ETtoday and other local media reported that Huang Chun-mei, Barbie Hsu’s mother, recently mentioned her son-in-law Koo Jun-yup on her social networking service (SNS) account.
Referring to Koo Jun-yup as her "son," Huang Chun-mei shared, "My son caught a cold, but he still prepares breakfast as usual and eats with us. I am grateful to him," giving a glimpse into how he is doing.
She also noted that Koo Jun-yup has "been staying in Taiwan," dismissing some speculation that he had returned to Korea after his wife’s passing.
That day, Huang Chun-mei posted photos from her visit to the memorial statue of her daughter Barbie Hsu at Jinbao Mountain and wrote, "The weather in Taipei was fine, but once I climbed the mountain, heavy rain and wind hit. My heart as a mother is in unbearable pain," adding, "Many fans are still sending flowers and coming to visit."
Barbie Hsu died on February 2 last year at the age of 48 while on a family trip to Japan, after contracting influenza accompanied by pneumonia. Koo Jun-yup and family members were by her side when she passed. After cremation in Japan, her remains were moved to Taiwan and laid to rest at Jinbaoshan Cemetery.
Barbie Hsu debuted in 1994 as part of the group SOS with her younger sister Dee Hsu and was active until 2003. She gained huge popularity playing the female lead Shan Cai in seasons 1 and 2 (2001–2002) of Meteor Garden, the Taiwanese adaptation of Boys Over Flowers.
In 2011, she married businessman Wang Xiaofei and had one son and one daughter, but the couple divorced in 2021 after 10 years of marriage. In March 2022, she announced her marriage to Koo Jun-yup, who had been her boyfriend about 20 years earlier. The two first met around 1998 and dated for about a year, then reunited and married 23 years later, drawing major attention as a "love story of the century."
