According to The Financial News, Donald Trump, who has been carrying out airstrikes on the Islamic Republic of Iran for ten days together with Israel, repeatedly insisted that the current war "will end very quickly." However, he did not mention a specific timetable.
Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) and other US media reported that Trump gathered Republican lawmakers for a conference on the 9th (local time) at Trump National Doral Miami in Miami, State of Florida. In his speech, he claimed that the bombing campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which began on the 28th of last month, had eliminated Iran’s supreme leader and destroyed various missile and drone facilities. He said, "We went on a small expedition because we thought we had to do that to take out some people," adding, "And as you can see, this will be a short expedition."
Trump stated, "When this thing (the war) is over, the world will be a much safer place," and continued, "We have taken out about 80% of their (Iran’s) missile bases and launchers. Right now, their launches are minimal." He went on, "A large part of their missile capability has been destroyed. Their drones have been shot down. And we are striking their drone production facilities."
Trump said, "I don’t know when they will surrender, but they should have surrendered two days ago," arguing, "They have nothing left now."
That day, Trump did not give any concrete schedule for the war. He said, "We have already won in many ways, but we have not won enough," and spoke of seeking "ultimate victory." Trump added, "The United States will not back down until our enemies are completely and decisively defeated."
Trump repeated similar claims in a phone interview with Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) on the same day as the conference. He said the war with the Islamic Republic of Iran is "far ahead of schedule" and that "the war seems almost over." Referring to Iranian forces, he said, "They have no navy, no communications, and no air force," stressing that the situation is "very significantly" ahead of the originally expected four-to-five-week timeline.
Trump also commented on the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran had blockaded, saying that ships are currently passing through and that "we are thinking about taking control of it." He warned, "They have fired everything they had," and added, "They would be wise not to try any clever tricks. If they do, that country will be finished."
Trump also addressed the fact that, after losing its supreme leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei in US–Israeli attacks, the Islamic Republic of Iran chose his second son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as the new supreme leader on the 8th. Trump said, "I have no message for him. Absolutely nothing."
