[New York City, The Financial News — Correspondent Lee Byung-chulThe government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a warning to oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz. As tensions rise in the Middle East, international oil prices are also surging.
Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said in an interview with Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) on the 9th local time, "All oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz must be extremely cautious."
Baghaei stressed, "Given how unstable the current situation is, all oil tankers and maritime traffic must exercise particular caution." He also defended Iran’s recent military actions in the Gulf region as justified.
Baghaei stated, "Attacking United States of America military bases and military assets in the Middle East is legitimate under international law." Following Iran’s warning, tensions in the energy market have intensified, as the effective shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz—a key chokepoint for global crude shipments—has driven international oil prices sharply higher.
