The Supreme Leader of Iran also serves as commander-in-chief of the armed forces and holds ultimate decision-making power over all state affairs. The position includes control over stockpiles of highly enriched uranium. For the past 30 years, Mojtaba Khamenei has leveraged his father's authority to wield significant influence within the Supreme Leader's office and its affiliated economic networks, placing himself deep inside the core of power. He is also a hardline conservative figure with strong influence within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the intelligence services. Because of this, United States of America (US) President Donald Trump had already stated, "Khamenei's son is unacceptable."
His election is seen as a signal that he will carry on his predecessor's legacy of taking a hard line against the United States of America (US) and Israel. As a result, the current war is expected to drag on as a confrontation between hardliners on both sides. Even as his election was announced, the Islamic Republic of Iran further intensified its drone and missile attacks on Israel and US military bases in the Middle East.
