[Financial News] Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is set to launch a new foldable phone with a book-style in-folding design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. The company is billing it as the industry's first "crease-free foldable phone" as it aims to broaden its presence in the foldable market.
According to industry sources on the 10th, Oppo will release its new foldable phone, the Oppo Find N6, on the 17th in China, Europe and other global markets.
Oppo says the standout feature of the Find N6 is its almost invisible display crease. The company has applied its proprietary "Zero-Fold Crease" technology, which it claims dramatically improves the crease issue long seen as a weakness of foldable phones. Oppo explains that the screen remains flat even after prolonged use, while offering smoother transitions between displays and more responsive touch performance.
In the teaser video released by Oppo, the device appears notably thin, and when fully unfolded, the display looks flat with no visible crease. The Oppo Find N6 is said to be even thinner than its predecessor, the OPPO Find N5, which measured 4.21 mm.
The Oppo Find N6 is powered by Qualcomm's latest mobile application processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It features a 20-megapixel Hasselblad camera, enabling professional-grade image quality without a protruding camera bump. The device also includes a built-in AI-powered pen and will be available in two colors: Stellar Titanium and Blossom Orange.
With the launch of the Oppo Find N6, industry watchers expect that reducing the display crease will become a key area of competition in the global foldable phone market.
Apple Inc. is preparing to unveil its "Apple iPhone Fold" (tentative name) in the second half of this year. The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover display, with a strong focus on minimizing the crease. To significantly reduce the crease, Apple is reportedly adopting a liquid-metal-based hinge design that enhances durability and disperses stress along the folding area.
