On the 9th, Samsung SDI announced that it will showcase a wide range of high-quality battery solutions and breakthrough technologies for the AI era at InterBattery 2026, Korea's largest battery exhibition, which opens on the 11th at the COEX Convention and Exhibition Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Under the theme "AI thinks, Battery enables," the company is preparing its largest exhibition space ever, where it will present its SSB technology currently under development for mass production in the second half of next year.
In particular, Samsung SDI plans to reaffirm its status as a global leader in solid-state technology by unveiling to the public for the first time pouch-type SSB samples being developed for Physical AI, including the increasingly prominent Humanoid robot segment.
Samsung SDI is developing pouch-type SSBs for Physical AI applications that require high energy density and power output in confined spaces.
Having previously focused on prismatic SSBs for electric vehicles, the company now aims to diversify its form factors to serve a broader range of markets, including robots, aviation systems, and next-generation wearable devices.
This year's exhibition concept is "Inside AI," chosen to vividly demonstrate how batteries are used across industrial sites and everyday life.
The main booth area is designed to resemble a real IT company data center, allowing visitors to feel as if they have stepped inside an actual data center.
At the center of the booth, Samsung SDI has installed a model of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) used in data centers, equipped with its UPS battery U8A1.
U8A1, a product dedicated to AI data centers, delivers high energy density, improving space efficiency by 33% compared with existing products, so fewer batteries can still supply the power levels required by data centers quickly and reliably.
Behind the UPS zone, Samsung SDI will exhibit for the first time high-power batteries for battery backup units (BBU), which prevent data loss in the event of a data center outage.
The company has enhanced safety and reduced heat generation by adding vents to the bottom of its high-power, high-capacity cylindrical batteries for BBU applications. Next to the UPS and BBU zones, Samsung SDI will display the full lineup of its Samsung Battery Box (SBB), an integrated Energy Storage System (ESS) solution. The company will also unveil for the first time Samsung Battery Intelligence (SBI), ESS fire-prevention software that uses AI to diagnose overall battery conditions and detect and predict anomalies in advance. As the company with the largest number of patents for prismatic technology in the global battery industry, Samsung SDI will also highlight its differentiated performance and safety technologies. Its 700Wh/L high-energy prismatic battery, which won an Inter Battery Awards prize this year, enables a driving range of 800 kilometers on a single charge and supports fast charging with top-tier power output. Visitors will be able to experience power tools equipped with Samsung SDI cylindrical batteries and see the company's ultra-high-power cylindrical battery technology firsthand. In addition, Samsung SDI will exhibit collaborative works created with emerging artist Um Jaewon under the theme "Fun-tastic Power, the energy that makes everyday life more delightful." A Samsung SDI official said, "Through this exhibition, we want to show how Samsung SDI's battery technologies can realize every possibility of the AI era," adding, "Based on the technological capabilities we have built up over many years, we will present high-quality battery solutions that are tailored to the AI era."
