According to police on the 7th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA)'s 22nd Police Security Unit transferred three officers on the 3rd. The officers are said to have drunk alcohol at a restaurant until about 10:30 p.m. on the 28th of last month after finishing work for the day. Earlier, the 22nd Police Security Unit had issued a notice urging officers to refrain from drinking after 9 p.m. The police plan to launch an internal investigation into the three.
The 22nd Police Security Unit under the SMPA is a police security unit directly under the agency that specializes in protecting the president of the Republic of Korea.
Its main duties include advance security at events attended by the president, dedicated protection during state visits, safety inspections of venues, and screening of attendees. In addition to firearms and martial arts training, officers use metal detectors and X-ray equipment to identify prohibited items and work in coordination with the Presidential Security Service (PSS).
